Happy Women’s History Month!
As a nod to the (fairly young) history of women’s sports, I decided to take black and white photos of my track teammates for an Advanced Photography earlier this semester. In the early-mid 20th century, black and white sports photography depicted female athletes in a much milder manner than today. By photographing my teammates in 2020 for who they really are — strong, gritty, graceful people — I hope to reframe the way people view female athletes.
It’s been such a blessing to compete alongside these ladies this indoor season. After about a year-long drought of racing, I stepped back on the track, and felt so much love and support from the team — no matter what the finish line clock said. These women inspire me every week, and they will continue to inspire me long after I graduate.
Here’s to them!
